ATV intro

Take a look a a bad day in Baja.

wreck 1

Try Mike Penland’s team in Baja California for the 1000. On the morning before race day someone made off with Penland’s ’06 Ford F250 and his Can-Am Outlander 800 pre-runner along with two sets of new shocks, thousands of dollars of parts, tools, gear and personal items including his Bible. But wait it gets better.

During the race rider Will McCampbell got hit by a trophy truck and knocked out for 45 minutes. The entire rear of the Outlander was smashed. The crew had their work cut out once they found the disabled rider and ATV. McCampbell was driven to San Diego to get checked out and is doing fine as we go to print. Meanwhile the two flat rear tires were replaced and the team had to replace the broken aftermarket shocks with stockers – a front on the right and a rear on the left, yank off the mangled rear plastic and rack and unbend the exhaust pipe. Five hours later they were moving again with the jerry-rigged rear end holding together to a second place sportsman class finish. Just another typical race story from Baja.
